A pot pourri of cultures blending together in this island nation gives
Singapore a unique and unparalleled cross section of race, religion
and tradition. From the modernistic face of the Orients financial
clearing house and the worlds busiest port to the mystique and
fascination of Chinatown; from the colonial grandeur of Raffles to the
tranquillity of the Botanical Gardens, Singapore has steadily become
a leading gateway for visitors to Asia. This is
where modern skyscrapers house glittering shopping malls and offer a
striking contrast to the still evident traditional lifestyle of the
old Singapore. Turn the corner and time will momentarily stand still
as you hunt around the colourful markets for traditional arts and crafts
or sample the culinary delights of Singapores many open air
food markets, offering Chinese, Malay and Indian delicacies.
