Mexico Travel Guide & Advice

Mexico is a huge country so full of culture, history and nature that even a couple of weeks aren’t enough to take it all in. Packed with sandy white beaches, mountains, deserts, colonial towns, rainforest and unexplored jungle Mexico has absolutely everything.

The ancient Mayan and Aztec temples and ruins makes you feel like you’ve just stepped back in time. You will find these scattered all over the southern part of the country, some only recently discovered and therefore practically deserted, apart from all the wildlife residing there.

Mexico is one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world, and the nature is truly amazing. You can find wildlife unmatched elsewhere in numbers and species both on land, in the air and under the water. Mexico is also home to the world’s second largest barrier reef.

The climate in Mexico is good pretty much all year round, with steady temperatures in the high twenties. The summer months (May - August) are more hot and humid, but if it gets too hot, you can just go into the mountains for a few days. September and October have the most unstable weather.

Holders of British passports will receive a tourist visa on entry which you'll need to keep in your passport until you leave the country. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months after date of entry. If you're flying in via the USA, then check the embassy website for current customs regulations.

Alongside the general advice given here, ensure that you have the correct vaccinations for where you are going on holiday and remain as healthy as possible before you leave. Of course it's important that you avoid becoming ill while you are on holiday. When you're away on holiday remain alert: when in doubt, consult a doctor.

Getting around in Mexico isn’t as tough as people often imagine. Mexico and particularly the Yucatan peninsula are easy to travel by car. Roads are well paved, safe and petrol is widely available in the larger towns and cities. You can determine your own pace and when and where you want to stop.

You can also travel by coach linked together by a big network covering most parts of the country. They depart on a fixed schedule and have comfortable reclining seats and air conditioning. This is a great option if you want to cover larger distances and travel overnight.
