In your Nepal travel experience you can spot rhinos on elephant-back in Chitwan National Park, relax on a rooftop in the buzzing Thamel district of Kathmandu, take a fantastic flight over Everest, and of course, trek to unspoilt villages in Kathmandu Valley or through the foothills to higher altitudes on the classic Annapurna circuit. Though we hesitate to use the clichéd ‘Shangri la’ expression, Nepal really is a Shangri-la for travellers who are looking for adventure.

The Himalayas of course dominate and define most of Nepal and you are constantly humbled by their scale and enchanted by their beauty. Against this backdrop, you have the wonderful Nepali people with their wonderfully rich culture, who have to be among the friendliest anywhere in the world and. Perhaps their charm is partly the result of living sandwiched between the 2 biggest countries in Asia (India and China) ?

The Nepal climate is moderate, which means the winters are dry and the summers are hot. But because of the huge range in altitude and landscape, Nepal’s climate differs considerably throughout the country. The lower plains are sub-tropical and can be hot and humid, whereas at high altitudes the sun can be stronger, but the air much colder.


Holders of British passports must obtain an Nepal visa before arriving in Nepal or on arrival at the airport. To obtain a visa, your passport must be valid at least 6 months after your planned return date. You require one free page in your passport for an Nepal visa. If you wish to obtain a visa on arrival you will need 2 passport photos, the correct fee in USD and you may need to queue at the airport.

Travellers health in Nepal. Nepal is a sub-tropical in the lowlands and you therefore run greater risk of becoming ill than at home. There will be bacteria, that your body won’t be used to if you don’t live in that area of the world. The risk of getting ill shouldn’t put anyone off going. Trekkers heading to high altitudes may suffer from altitude sickness.
