Jackie from Travel Nation has some R+R on her multi stop trip in Goa…

The main attraction of Goa is of course the beautiful beaches, there are dozens of beaches lining the coast of Goa and there is something for everyone. You can find your inner hippy, have some yoga action, wander around the Portuguese quarter of Panjim for a taste of the Mediterranean or venture inland to explore the spice plantations and spectacular waterfalls.

The Konkan Railway connects Mumbai with Goa and no trip to India is complete with out a trip in the Indian Railway, this is one of the best and most scenic journeys from the big city to the beautiful beach, if you have time it is a great introduction into the Indian Railway, you might even get to share your compartment with a mouse.

With my two friends in tow we arrived in Panjim for the beginning of our beach adventure, Panjim is definitely a highlight of Goa and it's worth stopping for a couple of days before you become too comfortable on your sun lounger, we checked into our beautiful Portuguese Town House wandered around the narrow winding streets in search of our first Goan Fish Curry and an Ice cold Kingfisher beer, getting lost in the back streets sampling the delicious food is a good way to start any trip to Goa.

The next decision was which of the many beaches we were off to. We took a taxi South from Panjim to Patnaem beach for our 10 day beach break, the emphasis was on relaxation, but there was quite a lot of action to be had, when we managed to extract ourselves from the sunbed. There were kayaks, yoga, ayurverdic massage. It is also cheap and easy to hire bicycles, scooters and motorbikes to explore further away from the beach (this is much harder or impossible in the rest of India). From Patnaem it was a short walk to the outdoor cinema, a longer walk to Palolem beach a beautiful but much more crowded beach (with a festival atmosphere) and a top spot for a bit of shopping or a good place to pick up an old wooden boat and sail off in search of dolphins.

But Goa really is all about the beach and the food, where the biggest decision of the day is what type of Lassi to have with lunch.......

Whatever you want from your beach break you can probably find it in Goa.
