When thinking of Fiji most people would picture themselves lying on
a beach and there are plenty of beaches to lie on......but this is not
all Fiji has to offer.
24 hours after leaving home I was finally approaching the Islands
of Fiji and the hammock was calling but that was for later.
I was about to spend a week on the Feejee Experience and another week
exploring the Yasawa Islands with Awesome Fiji
We were welcomed to Fiji and then whisked of onto the Feejee Experience
bus, which is a hop on hop off bus which takes you on a loop of the
main island Vitu Levu, you buy the pass and then you can travel at your
own pace, if you are in a hurry you can complete the loop in 4 days
or if you have more time you can extend your time for up to 12 months!
Each
trip provides opportunities for stops at some of Fijis most beautiful
beaches and some more crazy activities. I had been in Fiji for about
4 hours and I was at the top of a practically vertical sand dune with
my body board ready, to launch myself over the edge, fortunately our
guide went first to demonstrate the technique required to end up with
your teeth intact.
This was our first activity and there are lots of others included
in the price of the pass - a 3 hour jungle trek (still an amazing experience
in torrential rain), river tubing a long boat ride, bilibili rafting
with a trek to natural Fijian hot pools and a Kava ceremony which seems
to involve drinking some dirty water which has been strained through
an old sock - you get to do this a lot in Fiji and believe it
or not you get to love it!
All
the accommodation along the way is fantastic and there is something
to suit everyone from dorms to beach front bures only a couple of steps
from the ocean.
The guides can call ahead to arrange any other activities Scuba Diving,
Deep Sea fishing, Kayaking, water skiing or you can finally lie in that
hammock.....
The Fiji Experience is great if you want to see more than just Fijis
beaches there is a night in Suva the capital and a chance for a bit
of nightlife and also a visit to a local school to meet the children.
The feejee experience sponsors a class of children annually so they
can receive a high school education.
So after a fantastic week it was time to say good bye to the mainland
and hello to beach life.
